Case: RFID Automate Inbound & Outbound Operation

CHALLENGE

It is normal practice to count individual inbound and outbound products in logistics operation.  However, the counting process is time consuming and has high potential for error because of manual operation.  In order to increase the efficiency in this process, Identify has developed a solution to automate inbound and outbound activities.

SOLUTION

The RFID readers are installed at the inbound and outbound stations.  Before moving the product out or into the warehouse, the staff just downloads the deliver document into our software.  When the products which are embedded with RFID tag pass the RFID reader, the readers will automatically scan the RFID tag in the products and send their information into our system.  Our system will compare the physical products against those in the document.  Any discrepancies will be highlighted before the products are delivered to end user to avoid any mistakes on product delivery.  This can reduce the request for order rectification from some clients.  In addition, our system will update product status either RECEIVING or DISPATCHING into the system without human intervention.

RESULTS

  • Eliminate human operation on scanning product inbound and outbound operation.
  • Reduce work force on data entry because information is automatically recorded into the system
  • Reduce operation time

Case: HOME PRO PLC. Phase III

CHALLENGE: AUTOMATE INTERNAL LOGISTICS

Home Pro PLC has expanded its distribution center facility to have additional entrance/exit and weight station.  In order to cope with this expansion, Home Pro has also extended the usage of our RFID Fleet Visibility to cover for its new entrance and weight station.

SOLUTION

Since Home Pro PLC is currently using our RFID Fleet Visibility solution.  All of his trucks and trailer have embedded with RFID tags so the investment of this expansion is the additional RFID readers only including one 4 port RFID reader for gate entrance/exit and one integrated antenna RFID reader for weight scale.  In terms of software, Home Pro staff simply added these readers into our software without any software modification because our software is designed to support any expansion.

RESULTS

  • Reduce time in implementation
  • Reduce investment on RFID tag.  Because our software supports any expansion.

Case: RFID Self Service Kiosk

CHALLENGE

Currently most of the university students are using RFID technology as student identification cards.  In order to maximize the benefits of RFID technology, Identify has developed a RFID self service kiosk to reduce the routine task on printing academic document.

SOLUTION

Besides PC and printer like most of the kiosk, our kiosk is also embedded with RFID reader and EDC terminal.  We use a RFID reader which also supports NFC standard.  The RFID reader is designed to verify student status.  The student needs to have his RFID student card to be scanned by the RFID reader before printing any academic document.   The system will verify the status of the student card with the university data base.   Later, he has to make payment for his request through EDC terminal.  Upon reading his card by the EDC terminal, our kiosk will link this payment transaction with the bank.  When the verification and payment is completed, the kiosk will automatically print out the request academic documents.  All the process to get academic document can be completed within one station by the student himself, no need for any university staff.

RFID IMPLEMENTATION

RFID is recognized as an innovation that can change the way of managing business and supply chain and it has gained the attention from many organizations.  It is widely believed that RFID can contribute plenty of benefits.  In order to fully gain the benefits of RFID, it is essential for the organizations to pay attention to RFID implementation.

Besides the established RFID solutions that we have offered, Identify also offers RFID consulting service for RFID projects in other areas.  We always realize that the effective RFID deployment is important in order to capture the benefits of RFID technology.  For any RFID implementations, we always follow the below framework.

RFID MOLD MANAGEMENT

Description

Mold management is a challenging task, particularly in jewelry industry.  Each mold has limited life time by calculating from the frequency of usage.  Using the mold beyond its lifetime can easily damage the final product which is jewelry.  However, there is no data capture technology to effectively identify the mold and count it.  Bar label cannot be used because it will be easily damaged and need manual scan.  Our RFID Mold Management solution developed to fix this drawback.

How it works

Identify has developed a RFID Mold Management solution for this purpose.  RFID tag is embedded in each mold.  RFID readers are installed in the mold store room and individual working station.  Before taking the mold to the production, each mold is read by the reader at the store room.   At this stage, Identify software will associate the usage of each mold to the production order.  The RFID reader at the working station will count the number of usage of each mold automatically.  The software will notify the staff when there is any mold which is close the expired period.

This allows complete automated wireless identification of each mold without impacting the existing production processes.  As the mold pass through a RFID reader, the associated information of particular mold will be passed for further process.  For example, the RFID reader at the mold store room will enable us to know the type of mold being used in each production order and increase the visibility on the number of mold in stock.  This will enable us to make a plan on the type of mold in stock.  In addition, the reader at the working station will automatically count the frequency of mold usage.  We can avoid using the expired mold to avoid product damage.

Benefits

  • No manual operation is required
  • Provides error free in data gathering process.  Automatic identification and notification whenever any mold is close to expired period.
  • Increase the visibility on the mold in stock
  • Reduce the defected product resulting from using the expired mold

Applications:

  • Mold management

Case: Thai Beverage Can Phase I

CHALLENGE: AUTOMATE TRUCK TRACKING

Thai Beverage Can PLC (TBC) would like to improve its truck tracking operation.  When the truck enters the site, TBC would like to know truck status upon arrival so that the further processes such as loading or etc can be prepared in advance.  TBC also would like this process to be done automatically.

SOLUTION

To improve this operation, TBC needs a tool to automate truck tracking operation which is RFID technology. Each truck is tagged with an industrial passive RFID tag.  The tags are read automatically with the RFID reader located at the entrance and exit.  After reading by the readers, the truck information is forwarded to data base application for further process.  The staff at the warehouse will be informed for the truck arrival so that they can prepare the loading in advance.

With the RFID solution, TBC is able to increase fleet visibility and improve his warehouse loading operation.  By monitoring, TBC is also possible to gain important data about fleet operation.

RESULTS

  • Give real time information about the fleet arrival and exit without human input
  • Improve loading operation
  • Information is digitalized in measurable format, while makes it possible to monitor and improve operation.

RFID TUNNEL

Description

When there is a need for massive readings, RFID tunnel is the productive solution.  The main feature of the RFID tunnel is to quickly identify large numbers of RFID tagged objects simultaneously by passing the objects through the tunnel.  It is developed to read boxes with RFID tags inside.  The antenna configurations maximize reading inside and minimize reading outside of the tunnel.  All the information captured is displayed on the control screen which can be used to correctly direct your product

How it works

The RFID tunnel is developed for industrial automation applications.  We have employed a long range RFID reader with multiple antennas for RFID tunnel.  The reader is connected through the system via LAN network in order to ensure data communication.  All the reading information captured is displayed on any PCs which are connected the RFID tunnel. The tunnel can verify the discordances between the reading result with the quantities indicated by the system.  There is the possibility of installing photo sensors for multiple logic control of RFID readers and do the automatic conveyor system.
